Unfortunately I don't see an good alternatives if you want to directly print with inkjet. A lot of people have mentioned the RC papers, and while they are getting better, an RC print looks like, well, an RC print. In the darkroom I tried working with RC for over a year because it has a greater range than silver fiber but in the end I just couldn't like it. I like inkjet RC even less. If I had to have more Dmax I think I would try coating the matte prints over RC. In the end you may have to face up to the fact that at this point in time direct digital output is not going to make it for you. However, there are other digital alternatives. Mike Kravit has sent me some incredible prints he made by printing a chromogenic negative on clear film with Epson dye inks and the Epson driver then making palladium prints from the negs. Gorgeous! You can also use an image setter to produce contact negs for silver fiber printing. You can send files out for Lightjet printing. Lots of things that might give you a result that you would find more satisfying. Look beyond inkjet. Martin Wesley
