My goal, however, was to press the 3000 into service.  For that old
workhorse, I think the Cone driver might be the only way to get adequate
smoothness.  On the other hand, I may end up trying the Epson driver and
curves, just to see what happens.

That would be the expensive solution to my problem.

Exactly -- that is why I'm suddenly re-interested in digital internegatives.
(I went the imagesetter route, among others, and decided I never want to
work with another service bureau, especially now that I'm in the relative
sticks of Solvang.)

None, actually... its designed as an office machine, but I find it to be an 
excellent photo printer for uses it is not really marketed for... as you have 
determined yourself.

No, the Epson 10000 does nothave Pizza Wheels. It hase white 
plastic rollers that do not leave marks.

Paul,

My friend Jeff and I have compared Image Setter Negs to Negs 
made on the 1280. The Image Setters were a tad sharper but 
once printed in platinum the additional sharpness made no 
difference in the print due top the nature of the processs.

Know what you mean about the service bureaus.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
