Banding...

2018-11-05 by ramesh_adkoli@...

Hi,

I recently bought an EPSON P800 printer. I print black and white images using QTR on this. Yesterday I noticed banding in the shadow areas. Bands (variations in tonality) were perpendicular to the direction of motion of print heads (in the line of direction of printing). I did head alignment but to now avail. Nozzles are very clean as shown by nozzle check. Any idea what might be causing this?

BTW, how do I attach a file?

Regards,
Ramesh

What are you printing on, and what are your QTR settings? Roy created the 2880 Super setting specifically for the P800 to cure this issue (the setting is also available for a number of other printers). However most people only see the banding produced by using other settings when printing on transparency. It's rare for people to report seeing it on paper. As this is a QTR related question, you may be better to ask it in the Yahoo QTR group.

Thanks Brian for your response. I printed on Epson Archival Matte paper. At present, I used UCmk-EnhMatte-Neut as Curve 1 and rest as blank. Resolution 1440 dpi, Undirectional Speed and Matte Ink. Rest all defaults.

Where do I get "2880 Super setting" created by Roy? Appreciate if you could point me to that.

Sure, I can post in QTR group.

Ramesh

How quickly do OBAs wear out in a print, assuming a brightly lit room,
but not with direct sunlight? There is probably a huge range, of
course, but some papers, such as Red River Polar Matte make excellent
and quite neutral prints with a carbon inkset, along with a very good
dmax. Sure, for really expensive prints, I'll use Epson Hot Press
Natural or similar, but using something like Polar Matte would be a nice
option for lower-priced prints. If there's a noticeable change in a few
months, well, that'd be a problem. But if we're talking years, then it
wouldn't be. After all, don't most photo gelatin papers contain optical
brighteners?
