.icc vs .acv profiles ?

.icc vs .acv profiles ?

2017-09-02 by a_pettit_jr@...

I have used .acv profiles in the past in PhotoShop, turn the B&W to CMYK so as to actually

be able to adjust the curves of each quad grey ink and print via an Epson print driver. Seemed to work fine.

Showing my lack of printing expertise, I will ask : what function does an .icc perform that the .acv does not ?

Any instructional videos on the topic some where ?

Thanks,

Alex

Roy's Create ICC-RGB has a linearization function in it, so that your acv doesn't have to be so exact. You can also use the ICC in the soft proof so that you don't forget to remove it when you print. I have not put my latest acv viewing curve into an ICC yet to see if it'll take care of the viewing brightness issue. I need to live with and tweak my curve more. As I get different image with different values in the deep shadows, I'm, hopefully, able to refine the curve.

I've always, in the past, edited the curve for gray gamma 2.2, then applied a curve to it for QTR printing. If I use the ICC, the file will end up being very good for the printer, but maybe not so good for the internet. What is happening on the internet is that the phones' screen is way off in brightness compared to where the desktop is now. I'm not sure if there is a way to coordinate those platforms. Color management has not kept up in that respect.
