Acid free Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte substitute?

Acid free Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte substitute?

2016-04-30 by Lew Schwartz

Wow! Just tried out Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte. Love the tactile, textured look of my BW prints. Alas, it isn't on Epson's list of archival papers, no acid free guarantee. Is there an acid free equivalent, perhaps among the SW series?

TIA

I use Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Matte for proofing; it's cheap(er) and fairly close in appearance to Premier Art Smooth Fine Art 325 gsm. I've read that Epson Hot Press Natural is 'fairly close' to the PA paper, so maybe that's the paper you're looking for if you want to stay within the Epson family.

If you're looking for substitutes for the Presentation matte, keep in mind that it has OBAs in it; it's "bright" (more bluish). The Premier Art papers noted and the Epson Hot Press natural are OBA free and will look warmer. The "Bright" version of Epson Hot Press might be one to try.

The "brighter," "whiter" side is usually the printing side. If you touch the surface with the end or your tong, it'll stick to the inkjet coated side, but not the base paper, uncoated side.

I'm curious: which side of UPPPM do you guys print on? I use the side that looks whiter to me, but it may be slightly rougher in texture. Never sure which is the right side with this paper.

Not the same papers. Hot Press Natural has no OBA.

Wet your thumb and index finger and press them against both sides of a corner of the paper. The side that sticks is the side to print on.
