False Paper Skews

False Paper Skews

2015-06-17 by david@...

Has anyone found a way to override a paper skew alert for a 3800/3880?

I keep getting them when my material is perfectly aligned.

Yes I tried blowing out the interior of the printer. Recovered my dead pet moth, but that made no difference.

The funeral was touching.

False Paper Skew

It was an ongoing problem with several 3880's, and then I came to realize how touchy the
the paper feed can be - especially if you feed paper from the real (on sheet at a time).
Finally I discovered that slowly feed it, and gently pressing the paper against the right edge -
(Left edge if you stand behind the printer when the paper is feeding. So you start holding at
that edge as you're feeding the paper into the printer. At one point it will start feeding it'self, at
which point you can let it go. Not until that moment, do I press the "Print" button to make the file
start printing. It seems to work very well now. The other suggestion, if you are using somewhat
heavy paper (310 or 315 gm): There's a manual way at control buttons, to pick a change in the
Platton gap. For this thickness paper, it should be on Wide, (one position beyond normal (or regular)???

However, I haven't noticed skews with either position, as long as the feed stays where I suggested.
Good luck!

Clay

In addition to the things Clayton has noticed, I, frankly, find the sheet feeder works fine/better for most of the 300 gsm papers I use.

The only way I have been able to defeat a repeated skew on the 3800/3880 is to trim a very small amount off the leading edge, making the cut as truly orthogonal to the side as possible. Sometimes the paper is not cut precisely, and that can cause a problem. A bit of fraying on and edge or corner can also cause difficulty. I have found the 3880 to be a bit more forgiving than the 3800.

I don’t know of a way to “override” the skew alert. Maybe other members of the Group can offer something on this.
