Liking my new 1400 - but ...

I do like this 1400. Somehow it seems smoother running than the 1800, and it prints just fine. Am using the C-6 inkset, the mix it yourself version of the premixed Eboni-6, both versions pioneered by Paul Roark. By and large, the 1400 seems to use less ink than the 1800. Am using the curves supplied by Paul, one uses all six carts, one cart with 100% Eboni, five with diluted black in differing amounts and the other curve uses only black.
But:
As for the "but" in my subject line... the level of the black ink cart, judging from the display in the Epson driver, has hardly gone down at all. I've also pulled that cart and visually I can see that it's almost full. I'm getting perfect nozzle checks every time, and some of my prints have a lot of black. I did a few prints using the BO curve - and they were fine, so the black cart must not be clogged. The yellow-position cart, the most dilute of the five, is going down faster, may have to refill it soon.
I almost put this topic in the QTR Group, thinking maybe it was a setting in my curve - it has a black limit of 40 and the black boost is 50.
My 1400's one year warranty runs out next month - it's a refurb. I'd like to make sure my printer is ok before then.
Thanks everyone!
Paul
