I used to do what you say with sucess with both PiezoBW and MIS VM
inksets with carts or CIS/1160. These days I take the extreme step of
turning my 1280 on twice a day. I print the MIS purge6 pattern once on
plain paper in draft mode, followed by a nozzle check. This gets fresh
ink flowing into the printhead and uses up only a modest amount of ink
and time. About 1 out of every ten times with carts, I have to do one
or two cleaning cycles, and this is what drains the carts down.
Waiting more than 12 hours increases likelyhood of a clog with me. I'm
sure I'm an extreme case. I'm pretty much the Klog King.
