Brian and David, Its still not clear to me that the Spyder is going to automate anything for Brian when he tries to profile a dedicated b&w ink. It seems like if he already knows how to profile a dedicated b&w ink, he can substitute the measuring device he was using (an Eye1 for example) with a Spyder. Unless I am mistaken, all the Spyder is going to do is measure. It does not have any application to make curves, or linearize curves. So here is another idea that might get the three of us into a new quick project that will allow Brian to measure a 256 patch grayscale target, email me the data, and I will email him back a K7 profile. Brian would need of course to print the target through QTR and a Piezography K7 "master curve" which I would send him. David will need to dimension out the target so the Spyder can read it, and a way for Brian to save the measured L values into a text file or spread sheet to send me. My Piezography Profiler will make a perfect linearization from the data - if the data is spot on - this should be a no brainer approach. K7 profiles have seven 256 point curves, and I believe Brian will be hard pressed to try that on his own with QTR curve creator tools. If we plan a time to do this, I can convert measured data into a curve set in moments and return for Brian to comment on the results. We can also confirm a linearization with the same target through the custom profile. Normally, I charge $99 for a custom K7 profile that we measure from our supplied target. But this project might lead to David selling a few more Spyders and InkjetMall making lower cost custom profiles for Spyder owners who use K7 inks. There are a ton of K7 users but very few own a Spyder. We do not even sell the Spyder at InkjetMall. it would look something like this 1) Jon emails Brian a 2200 Master Curve 2) Brian install the curve into QTR 3) David creates a 256 patch grayscale target (0-255) that is dimensionally correct for the spyder. 4) Brian prints the target through the master curve. 5) David figures out a way for Brian to send Jon a CSV or Excel spread of the 256 measurements with only the L values. 6) Brian measures the printed target with the Spyder, and emails Jon the data. 7) Jon plugs the data into the Piezography Profiler and produce a set of seven curves each with 256 data points that form a perfect linearization for Brian's printer, and emails it back to Brian to install in QTR. 8) Brian reprints the 256 patch target through the custom profile, measures the data and sends to Jon for confirmation. 9) Jon plugs data into Piezography Profiler to confirm its linear. 10) Brian prints his photos with confidence. No charge on this end for these experiments if David will give it a go. If it works, and I do not see why it would not, anyone with a Spyder could print and measure a target and email the data back to me, and get a custom profile back in moments. regards, Jon Cone
