Oh well - I'm in total DISagreement here!! I've used partitions for years 
without any problems. I don't see how not using them can reduce 
fragmentation. Modern defragmenters such as Diskeeper leave defragged files 
where they are - they don't shift them to one end of the disk any more, as 
it is not efficient. So your large unpartitioned disk gets covered with 
defragged files, possibly leaving no large free spaces for scratch files or 
pagefiles. Far better IMO to put them in a partition of their own where 
there can be no other files in the way (except for system files). If you 
need to change the size of a partition, Partition Magic still does a good 
job after all these years.

I take frequent images of my system partition with Acronis TrueImage, and I 
certainly don't want to take images of my complete disk.
