Digital BW, The Print

I am a complete newbie at B&W printing, so I apologize in advance if my 
questions appear stupid.

I am trying to find a cheap way to try B&W inkjet printing, and for 
what I managed to gather the combination C86 + MIS inks seems the 
easiest way to get into it; problem is: I can't source a C86 in the UK, 
its successor is the D88 which seems to have different part numbers for 
the catridges, does anyone know if MIS B&W inks for the C86 work with 
the D88?

Another option would be to get a R220 + MIS inks, the R220 is easily 
available, and if the results are as good (and it is as easy to use) as 
the C86 + MIS I may go down that route, has anyone tried this option?

Finally MIS inks seems to be available only direct from the 
manufacturer, I seem unable to source them in the UK, is anyone aware 
of an UK distributor or, failing that, is there a product, available in 
the UK, that can give similar results using reasonably cheap printers?
