Hi Clayton, I think that this was the conclusion that I was coming to from reading the articles on this group. I don't regret buying the HP - it produces great B&W images (on the right paper) and is fine for dabbling about but I accept that I will probably grow out of it at some stage. I'm not doing this professionally. It was not expensive so I will be happy to sell it on and get something else at some stage. Question is - what ? - Epson I guess ? I don't use an HP, but from reading posts here I think HP is not used by serious fine art printers because - the ink is dye and must be used with certain HP papers to get longevity - the above combination restricts choice and is very expensive - the HP printers don't allow using various inks, especially pigments, and therefore restricts experimenting ...anyone else want to add to this? Have I left out anything...?
