For those who may be interested, I have written a JavaScript that creates selections in an image for each of the % brightness ranges of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. These percent brightness correspond to the Zone System's ranges of Zones 0 through Zone X. The selections are stored in the image as alpha channels. The script will use a default tonal range to create the selections, or it can use one you specify. As a reference, the histogram shows us the distribution of our image's tones. This script shows you what pixels fall into a specify zone. You may download the script (free) at http://www.zuberphotographics.com/page_Downloads.htm It is the last item in the list. The download and usage instructions can be found here http://www.zuberphotographics.com/page_Support.htm If you download it, do not put it in the Plug-Ins folder as it is not a plug in. It goes in the Presets/Scripts folder. The JavaScript was written on a Windows/Photoshop CS platfrom and also tested on a Windows/Photoshop CS2 platform. Being JavaScript, it should :-) also work on a Mac, but it has not been tested on a Mac. I doubt the script will run in Photoshop 7. Hope you find it useful. Thomas p.s. I am posting this message in a couple more forums I belong to. So I apologize if you read it more than once.
