I'm a bit mystified by your problem.

If you have a 1280 you got a cd with software on it which would have 
included drivers for OSX AND the Epson utility.

If you go to the website and download the latest driver, I'm pretty 
sure the driver  includes  the Epson Utility. AFAIK it is installed at 
the same time.

An alternate place to look is in users/Applications.

How are you printing now? Are you using the epson drivers that come 
with OSX? (Which version of OSX are you using, that may be relevant)
