Ultratone on Epson 1280: which paper and ink?

2005-03-28 by mleblanc001

I am using UT2 Ultratone (from MIS) with my Epson 1280 with marginal
results. I never obtain a satisfactory neutral print. It seems too
cool for my taste with a slight magenda cast. I have been using
Paul Roark workflow and curves with matte paper. I have not been
succesful in modifying the curve to get a warmer result. I was
trying to go somewhere in between neutral and carbon but it does
become brownish AND magenta at the same time !! Anyone can propose
a curve that works well ?

Paper: I am using Epson Matte Heavyweight, however the curve is made
for Epson Enhanced Matte. Does it make a big difference ? Anyone
has compared result for both paper? Is it the source of my problem ?

I am not interested in warm, sepia or anyting like that. What I
want is a straight neutral print that would look like a traditional
darkroom print. Should I switch to monochrome inks (like FSN from
MIS)? Anyone has experience comparing UT2 with FSN ?

Thanks for your help,

Michel
