Your experience matches mine to a large extent, this is one of the 
reasons why I upgraded
to a 2200. I used a 1280 with CIS for about 6 months and found the 
clogging to get
worse, especially on the black nozzle. Tried every method in the book 
with Windex,
also unplugging the CIS and using dye carts to try getting a clean 
nozzle check is also
a pain- so I guess that from this point of view, using the EZ fill carts 
at least makes it
less painful when you have a stubborn clog. I am not sure either that 
the issue is in the
cart design, my 1280 is now retired, I acquired the printhead 
installation software but
I'm still considering whether it is worth putting in a new printhead, 
given that I would not
use it for anything else except pigment.
The old printhead had build-up on the black nozzle, or spigot, don't 
know exactly how
to call that part, but it's a little plastic piece which is cone shaped, 
with minute holes in it.
I could not remove it with Windex and really did not want to consider 
anything else more
drastic.
I also have a C84 and it seems more robust in terms of clogging,  must 
be the printhead
design for Durabrite inks.
Just a silly remark but could be that the spongeless EZ carts keep the 
spigots in the head
"whetted" to a better extent than the conventional design.
