Re: Join us at MEDIAPHOTO Yahoo Group

2004-11-30 by Christer Rosewelll

This is not intended to start a flame war - but this is too important
to ignore!

I am a member of EP - Editorial photographers:

http://www.editorialphoto.com

an organization for Professionals, aspiring professionals and students
from all over the world. I have been a member of this group for more
than 4 years. I became a member just after I became an
artist/phootgrapher. The member count right now is more than 4,000. The
wealth of knowledge, help and professional advice I've gotten from
members of this group has saved - and made - me thousands of dollars.

In order to better serve it's members it is now moving off Yahoo and in
order to do so there is a small fee - $25 for the first year if you
join before 2005. After that is $50/year. Students/assistants can join
for half that fee. This huge (I am ironic here) sum is obviously too
much for some people - how that can be as for a student/assistant the
first year cost comes to $0.034/day - that's right - 3.4 cents per day!
After that it'll be 6.8 cents/day. For this HUGE cost you can tap into
the combined knowledge of some of the worlds best photographers - you
may not like the advice but it will be answers from people WHO KNOWS
the business - and isn't that what you want? The truth - not guesses,
right? Information that will serve you for the rest of your life

The group below is started by a particular member of EP who several
times asked for professional advice, didn't like the advice he received
from members - I was one of those who received an offensive, nasty and
childish email when he didn't like it when I suggested that sharing
copyright with models or modifying contracts without the advice of an
attorney was not a good way to start a professional career.

And there's already posts on this forum that if followed will seriously
erode the earning potential of anyone who follows this "advice".

There is a thread about this on EP - search for "MediaPhoto Yahoo group
for aspiring professionals".

I suggest you read this thread before joining the group below if you
really want Professional advice!

Christer
