My rather old Epson 860 presented similar "unfixable" problems. With the service manual and service program in hand, I removed the print head. Soaking overnight in mixture of alcohol and windex and then pressuring the mix thru the head with a syringe cleared the blockage.It's quite a procedure but very satisfying to know I can keep the printer working perfectly.
