RE: [Digital BW] Can ultrasmooth be autocut in Epson 4000? (was: 7600 roll paper gimp)

2004-09-22 by Paul Roark

Just to insert my 2 cents' worth regarding auto cutting --

As noted, below, the Epson large-format roll paper cutters don't work well
on thick paper. I use it to cut EEM on my 7500, but not my UltraSmooth roll
paper.

I really like that cutting feature for roll papers. So, for that and other
reasons, a thick roll paper has some disadvantages.

The thought that PremierArt 205 might be a paper that has the UltraSmooth
coating and is more likely to be easily cut by my 7500 is one reason I
thought that paper deserved very close examination. (Way lower cost also
figures in my calculations.)

I know that's the Epson party line, but can others confirm that
cutting a paper like Epson Ultrasmooth on a 17" roll with the 4000's
autocut mechanism will quickly wear out the blade? It seems to do a
great job on the few prints I've used it for, and cutting roll paper
by hand is such a hassle - straight edges are impossible.

Thanks,
Ron
