The proofing files and instructions are in stuffit format .sit
I think there's a free uncompress program for PC on stuffit.com

If this turns out to be more of a hassle,  would .zip files be the
best format for PC's?

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
