Yes and no.  For general storage and categorizing of images I use
either date, subject or project as seems fitting.  I use PS Album
because of its ability to tag images with any number of tags and then
filter by those tags.

When an image goes into a workflow to become a print it moves into a
different section of folders organized by portfolio.  An image can
have its own subfolder under a portfolio if needed (because of several
variations, profiles, whatever).
