Also check out the Minolta Dimage scanners.  For 35mm the new 5400 has some
nice specs, and my ScanDual III is a great scanner that was cheap (but only
2820 PPI).

Thank you very much for helping me in my search for the appropriate

I think I will get the one from Polaroid, the SprintScan 4000 since I 
do a lot of b&w in 35mm and intend to print out in larger formats.

Now, can anyone recommend a printer which is good, not to pricey and 
does handle well b&w prints in various formats?
