I see lots and lots of grain in 4000dpi scans of both Portra 400 and 160. I'm definitely willing to believe that there are films out there with less grain - but for the film I use it seems that 2700 dpi scans are preferable, since the grain doesn't present itself nearly as badly at lower resolutions.
