FWIW, I also use the VM inks in a 1280 on a WIN98SE system. I also upgraded
from PS 6 to 7 a few weeks ago. The only significance difference in our
systems seems to be that I'm using a CIS. Also, I just began using a new set
of CIS carts and VM bottles a few days ago.

I'm not the most critical printer by any means, but I haven't experienced
any noticeable problems with prints from files printed both before and after
upgrading to PS 7. And, so far, I can say the same about the few prints I've
printed since installing the new CIS carts and new set of VM bottles.

Based on my experience, I'd say your problem probably isn't the PS upgrade
or the new inks. I suspect you need to be looking elsewhere for the source
of the problem, but I'll have to leave it to others here to offer more
specific guidance.
