making some headway getting MIS carts recognized by 1400
2014-01-10 by <paulmwhiting@...>
MIS thought the problem might be a printer firmware issue so I called Epson to find out if there were different versions of firmware on the 1400 and was told no, all one version from the very first models up through the current refurb.
Then I across this website: http://www.precisioncolors.com/E6B_79.html
and you'll note their carts use version 6.0 and, to top that, they make a resetter for the Arc chips - click on the highlighted blue text. They also sell empty refillable carts, again with ver. 6.0 chips: http://www.precisioncolors.com/E6b_79ref.html I phoned them and had a very helpful conversation with a guy who politely disagreed with Epson, saying there were at least three versions of firmware for the 1400 and that their 6.0 chips would be accepted by all three firmwares. He also told me there's a "master-slave" setup in the 1400 carts...the black cart is the master and if it's not recognized none of the others will be either. Interesting.
MIS is sending me a third set of carts, from a new batch they just got in and I'm eager to see how these test out. Another member here and I have had an off-site conversation - he himself has a refurb 1400 and is using ver 6.3 MIS carts with no problem. Go figure!
It's been a puzzle and not all pieces have fallen into place. Every time I think I've found the clue I run into a "Yes, but....".
Stay tuned,
Paul
