It is how they separate the colors of light to be measured. The first uses changing filters (some colored LEDs), and the latter a prism with sensors placed at the band of the spectrum they are to measure. A big difference in their designs, and also their accuracy. The spectrocolorimeter is more accurate. And also much more expensive. Ben
