DW8000 audio problem

DW8000 audio problem

2011-02-15 by AJ

I turned it on after not using it for about a year. The lights came on, but there was a horrible sound coming from the outputs when I pressed any key (even some noise when I didn't). I loaded a clean set of patches in case of corruption, but that didn't help. I followed the online tutorial for replacing the old battery, and I loaded a clean set of patches. Same problem...

Help!!!

Hi,

First post in this group so here goes...

A recording of this noise might be helpful in diagnosing the problem. Can you get the output connected to a computer and generate a WAV file, etc? I hate to say this but if it is what I think the problem is then there may be a fault with the DSP in the digital delay circuitry. I had one such problem in the workshop about a year ago. So it might be worth getting your local tech to have a look. If you are in the UK I might be able to help you.

Cheers,
Andy

If it comes down to having a technician look at it, you'll probably
discover that parts are hard to come by for a DW8000, and tech time can
be expensive. It is often easier and less expensive to buy another used
DW8000. You'll often find that used ones have defects like one or more
broken keys or a scratched case, etc. You can use yours as parts to fix
one that needs cosmetic or minor repairs. Hang onto yours as a source
of future parts. Alternatively you can buy a used one and use THAT for
parts to try to repair yours, by swapping entire boards from one to
another, or swapping power supplies.

Isolating the issue won't likely be easy, but I'd agree that a sound file would be helpful.

It might be that a couple electrolytic caps have gone bad with age. They do that.

I've got one working and one for parts myself.
