replace my poly61 (sort of M)

replace my poly61 (sort of M)

2010-12-01 by silvercreekvalley

Ive finally decided to try and replace my poly 61 with a poly 61m if I can find one :) I've had a poly 61 for a long time, and this was fitted with an unknown MIDI update which has unfortunately failed. I've had a few engineers look at it over the years, but although the 61 works fine, the MIDI doesnt. Rather than fit a new MIDI interface, I think it would be great to try and get an official Korg MIDI poly61M if I can.

Does anyone have a poly61M they'd like to sell? I'm based in the US and UK (mailing address in both), so I guess that covers US and EU postage wise?

Anyway let me know. I know they are kind of rare these days.

It might be cheaper and safer to just buy a new MIDI interface. Well maybe not cheaper. I would shop around first because MIDI kits can be pricey and the poly-61 is not.
As for safer I mean the battery problem. I have two 61's and had to clean up acid and replace the batteries. Only one was salvageable. The other has never functioned correctly due to battery leak damage.
The working one is a 61M model and believe me there is nothing special about that big blue "M". The midi only handles note on,off and maybe the pitch bend but I don't think it does even that. No arp sync, modulation or editing and always in omni mode:(
So that's the low-down for an informed decision. Good luck.

Oh btw, you should do the filter/res control mods if you haven't yet. Its very easy and they rock! Just look up Voice of Saturn.

Thanks for the info. The midi kit I have installed was basically
the same note on/off etc, but it was useful from time to time. I
didnt know about the filter/res mod though - thanks for that. I may
give it a try on my 61.
