dw-8000 drone problem

dw-8000 drone problem

2010-06-03 by william stangeland

just got a korg dw 8000 from ebay for a decent price. seems to be
fully functional except that any key depressed produces the same note
and the tune slider has no effect. with arpeggiator on it runs through
the octaves, but stays on the same note no matter which key is
pressed. also tried connecting my sequencer to see if it would
recognize different notes via midi, but it still only plays the same
note. finally i tried using a midi controller to the same effect, but
same results. is there anyone familiar with this problem who can give
me some pointers?

Sounds like it's stuck in one of the test modes.

I had the very same issue with mine which I got for $75.

A good cleanup seems to be in order. TRy also to disconnect, clean and re-connect the keybed connectors.

Let me know how it goes,

Yash

Neither full cleaning nor test modes helped.
Going to test if its the CV or Digital signals going into 662 thats off.

Did you try just reloading the sounds from "tape"? Leave it on for a few hours, then try loading the sounds into it, then see if you still have a problem

Yep, I did, with tape the sounds actually got transfered which is an improvement, but I still get the drone problem.
However, when I fiddle with the tune slider and the arpeggiator, sometimes I get harmonics and a couple more tones on top. So it seems like the pitch CV/key assigner path is guilty?  Some bleed into it creating the drone or broken IC or something?
