Korg DW8000, Mono/Poly, MS-20...

Is really DW6000 so much different from my 8000? Never imagined of this...I also always hoped I could burn a custom ROM with my personal soundwaves, but it seems it is so uneasy to do...I once saw on the web ( Youtube) a genius who did it it! Damn impressive! If You could do as well something, please, report! I would like to do it so much...

Hello... I just joined the list!

I recently re-acquired a DW-6000 and am looking for any updated information on this under-valued synth.

I had my first one back in the late 80s and loved it as a simple poly-synth with an aggressive soloing style. When I "upgraded" to the DW-8000 I was pretty impressed for all of the obvious reasons, but I ended up missing the smoother portamento of the 6000 and hated the klunky keyboard of the 8000. Digital delay, aftertouch, and auto-bend are all very cool, but I didn't love it and eventually got rid of it.

So now I have a "new" DW-6000, which is actually in pretty rough shape at the moment because the case was broken near the power supply vents in shipping.

While it works perfectly, I also made the mistake of cleaning the plastic case, which is now much cleaner, but the finish sustained damage from the solvent I used. I should have known better, but I was planning on repainting it. Perhaps a nice glossy blue that matches the blue labeling? Or purple?

Anyway, I'm looking for a few things and hope that some of you can help:

1. DW-6000 DIY stories. The DW-8000 with switchable ROMS is cool. I want to burn my own waveform ROMS for the 6000. Has anyone repainted their DW synth?

2. DW-6000 patches in SYSEX format. I found the factory patches and will load them tomorrow. Unfortunately, my battery is dead, but I've already found the replacement information for that.

Well, as you can see from the photos and patches I've uploaded, I've been making some headway on my DW-6000 project. I can't wait to finish painting it so that I can start programming and playing it some.

Thanks everyone for the links to DW-6000 schematics for sale. Wish I didn't have to buy them from someone who probably got them for free. If I do manage to locate a PDF I'll consider putting them up here for free. After all the DW-8000 schematics are here.

The DW-6000 and DW-8000 apparently are quite different on the insides. They definitely share some of the same voice architecture and peripheral boards, but the DW-8000 is a much busier CPU, which is why I expect there is a difference in portamento smoothness.

However, I have located the Wave ROMs and have understood, in theory at least, what I need to put on it. Since I have a programming background, formatting the waveform data into binary ROM images shouldn't be out of the question. I'm more ignorant about which EEPROM burner I should buy to do it, but I expect to continue working on this goal to arrive at my own set of custom waveforms that are much better than the stock set.

I probably won't go all the way like strellis did by installing a ROM back switcher knob, but it's not out of the question considering that the ROMs will have the extra capacity.

Other mods under consideration: Replacing the analog chorus with a Memory Man or some other more compelling digital delay. The delay is probably one of my favorite features from the DW-8000, but it would be cooler to have something with tap-tempo.

Anyone heard of any other cool mods for the DW-6000?

The power chord change is a great idea.
I have my DW-6k going through a old Korg A3. Sounds fantastic.
Can you change the tuning of voices in unison mode to increase the 'fatness'?
