External controller question

External controller question

2009-06-01 by LonePiper

I would like to be able to adjust the parameters of my DW8000 in realtime with some sort of external controller, such as the Behringer BCR2000. Is this possible?

>Brian Kessler has a great (GREAT) DW8000 site at http://www.pallium.com/bryan/dw8000.php#Freak where he explains about the 8000 using sysex messages (and not CC messages which would be so much easier) and he gives the patch for Kenton controllers. I use an Encore Electronics Knobby (http://www.encoreelectronics.com/cont_knob1.html) and it is still sold by them. They have the dw8000 patch (and many other synths and things) in a library and you can download it into your Knobby. It is very high quality box and the dw loves it (me too). You should be aware that some parameters in the dw do not use all 128 steps of midi control so there is audible stepping during real time control (the midi spec in manual shows this if i recall correctly). Midi control of the delay has yielded me some great glitchfests. good luck ps what you really want though is: http://www.musitronics.de/musitronics.org/products/dw8000_ex_e.html

I am developing just such a box and it is being prototyped at the moment. It will emulate a Roland pg-200, 300 & 800 and will work on other synths such as the DW-6000 & 8000. So far the supported list is Roland JX-3P, JX-8P, JX-10, MKS-70, Juno 1&2, Korg DW-6000, DW-8000, M1. Other nice features are midi control of early Rolands, internet updates as more synths are added and 2 independent external inputs that can be mapped to any control.

Yes, it should work.

Yes, most definitely. You will have to send System Exclusive messages from your controller to address each of the parameters you want to control.
