Data to tape for Poly61 question

Data to tape for Poly61 question

2008-02-15 by nmbr7lks

I have a Polykorg 61. The manual tells of saving program data. The
question I have is when this is done,(havn't attemped it yet) is all of
the data on board saved or just a single program? The reason I ask is:
On Ebay(item 130182657747) there is a fellow selling rescue tapes. The
claim is that it will restore all the original factory presets after
the battery dies. My battery is still working, so I'd like to make my
own 'Rescue' tape(saving of $20.00) before I attemt to change out the
battery, which is another question I have. Hope you all can help.
Thanks in advance for any responses. Mike

Mike,

If you still have sounds, you should be able to save all of the data at once.  The old synths used to save an audio file to a cassette tape recorder.  But, you can hook the audio connection (usually an 1/8th inch connector) into the audio in of a computer.  Then you can use the sound recorder to record the audio to a .wav file.  Just click record and then select the save feature of the keyboard.  Then if it loses data, you can restore it using the same process in reverse, play the wav file to the keyboard.  No sense in spending $20.00 if you don't have to.  I'm not that familiar with the Poly61, but, I have a Poly 800 and I have worked a lot with a DW8000.

Make sure you verify the file you save with the .wav file.  Also, these keyboards are picky about the sound level going into the keyboard.  If it's not quite right, it'll give you a err message.  If it's good, it should say good.  You just have to play with the audio level and make a note when you find the right level.

Even if you get the rescue tape, you'll have to play around with the audio level until you get it right.

Take it easy,
Greg

www.analog.no

link to "factory patches"

Tons of "rescue tapes" for several synthesizers. You have to connect
your Poly61 to the soundcard output of your PC.

I would bet that the cassettes contain the same waves as on the website.
