Help - Dead Battery ???

Help - Dead Battery ???

2003-01-03 by rmedina704 <RMedina704@aol.com>

Howdy!
I have my DW-6000 now for about 5 years. I unplugged it for about a
year and had it standing on an end. When I recently plugged it in, it
lit up for about a second and now only has the number 1 showing on
the left and won't sound any more. I left it plugged to electricty
for a few days thinking the battery needs to be recharged. It still
hasn't worked.
Does it seem that the battery needs replacement? Is it hard to do?
Is it even worth it? The tape interface never worked on this unit. It
was the first keyboard I aquired. (I can't play but I'd hate to loose
it.) Can you purchase a battery and is there a site with replacement
instuction?
Thanks.

If it's the same as the 8000's, it's not TOO hard, but harder than it should
be indeed. The battery is literally saudered to the main board. Finding a
replacement is probably just a matter of going to wal-mart though, it's just
a watch battery.

Hey thanks. I hope it's not too hard to find. I thought it would be
some kind of special battery that isn't available anymore. This is
great news. Hopefully the old battery won't have too much solder on
it so I can match the proper voltage. Maybe, once I have the cover
off, I can check the tape jacks to see if a wire might be loose.
(This will be the first time I open a keyboard. Wish me luck!) Thanks
again. - RM :-)

Good luck, and a bit more advice when you're trying to find it, it's
somewhere between the size of a nickel and a quarter, with 2 thick wires in
a y shape across the top of it (or maybe they were on the bottom, I cant
recall). I had to detach a hinged daughterboard inside my ex8000 if I
remeber correctly, in order to reach it....I think. In any case, it's
probably much more spread out and visible in a keyboard.

Well, at least it won't be much of a loss if I can't get it back
together. It's not worth much. Then again, I always hate to get rid
of something I spent money on. I actually wind up with lots of unused
stuff over the years. Guess it has some value. By the way... I also
own a Korg X5D, Casio CZ-101, Yamaha DX7, Yamaha SY85 and a Yamaha
AN1x. The DX7's battery is at 2.7 volts and will be a bigger headache
to deal with later on. So the DW-6000 is like my primer. (Maybe I'll
find some coins when I open it. Doubt it!)
Peace! -Rick
