Korg DW8000, Mono/Poly, MS-20...

I know that the dw6000 isn't touch sensitive or has aftertouch but I
wonder if the plastic keys from the dw6000 can be placed in the dw6000.

I've just resurrected a dead DW8000 this (UK) lunch time - (a blown
7805 regulator for the digital side FWIW). I also modified a DW6000
recently and cleaned the keyboard contacts as well taking off all the
keys.

The DW8000 has a very different keyboard - different as can be from a
DW6000.

The 8000 has velocity and after touch and lead weights in the keys.
The 6000 has neither. They fix to the key bed frame differently and
have different springs. The 6000 is more conventional as it were with
a coil spring at the end of the key. The 8000 has a U shaped metal
strip under the key for the spring.

So in answer to your question - No - Sorry :S

A Korg DS-8 has the same keys as the DW8000.
But the DS-8 is much rarer than the DW8000. Still, if you find a dead DS-8,
you'll be in business for parts.

Hi Chris,

I have a DW8000 that i bought from ebay but its not working only the
lights seem to come on and no sound, i was wanting to repair this
and was hoping it was just the battery but i guess it could be more,
does anyone know who would look at it for me as i dont really want
to break it for parts if its just something silly...sorry for the
high jacking of the thread...

I think the DSS-1 also has the same keybed. Those can often be found
for very cheap esp. ones with a broken disk drive ($50 or less) and they
come up on eBay all the time, not as rare as DS-8. Those keybeds were
made by Panasonic (for Korg), they are a little on the 'noisy' side when
the key springs back in the note-off position, but the action is pretty
good.
