New here, need some Polysix help...

New here, need some Polysix help...

2005-08-16 by Mike

Hello.

I own a Polysix that is having a problem, that I first thought was related to the battery. I
basically replaced the battery and the diode like explained on Old Crow's synth page,
except I did not replace the IC chip because the battery did not seem to have leaked onto
the board and therefore I found no real reason to go through more of a hack job.

The problem began after just moving the synth from one room to the next (i know, it
sounds stupid), and all my patches began to modulate after roughly two seconds if you
kept the keys pressed down. After changing out the battery I had to reload the patches
back into the synth and half of them don't work, and the ones that do still modulate. I
already got insight from Scott @ Old Crow, but I wanted to know if anyone else had
experienced a simliar problem, forcing them to do a battery replacement and find out it
did not solve the problem..

Let me know, I'm curious to see responses, if any.

Gosh, I would be curious to hear your Poly6!!!

I have a Poly61 that does funny things too, but not as
funny as "patch modulation".

If the pacthes are unstable, may be the memory is
responsible.
The fact that your problem appears after physically
moving the synth could point to a dry solder joint
nearby the memory chip.
Dry joints is a current problem with machines that
old.

Have a look for greyish looking joints, you never
know, it could really be as simple as resoldering a
few.

Good luck!

My poly 61 just started acting up.
I sold it to a friend 14 years ago and it sat in their
closet. They just gave it back to me 6 months ago.
It worked fine after a key contact cleaning.
I don't play it for a month, turn it on and suddenly I
have unpredictable "portamento" on about the lower
third of the keyboard.
Still has original battery. I don't know if that
could explain it.
Any ideas?
thanks
