New to the Group

New to the Group

2002-06-04 by James Sevic

Hello everyone!

My name is Jim and I'm brand new to the group. I am a guitarist, drummer, and more recently, novice keyboard player. I just recently bought a DW-6000 used for 32 bucks thinking that it was broken, but it works fine. I guess I just got lucky. I know this board isn't as valuable as the DW-8000, but I'm having fun with it, and hey, the price was right. So anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to get the factory preset patches and other cool sounds and would appreciate anyone's help. I don't have the manual for this board and am wondering what the difference between the two buttons "Poly 1" and "Poly 2" are. Sorry to mooch off of this group, but there is no DW-6000 group, and the two keyboards seem to be very similar. Thanks, happy plinking!

Poly 2 is supposed to be selected for patches that use polyphonic
portamento, glissando, glide or whatever its called in manual. I
don't remember exactly what its supposed to do for these patches but
I think it keeps track of the order of the notes in a chord and keeps
them in order as they glide together when a new chord is played. I
never found that it made a whole lot of difference and this feature
was actually circumvented and used for something else in the Angel
City Turbo upgrade. I'll try to look it up and post more info later
if anyone is interested.

Jim says:
David, thanks a million for the info. I don't have a manual for this
keyboard, but have figured out most of the functions. I did manage to get
a factory preset tape if anyone is interested. Maybe we could trade
patches? I'm interested in orchestral sounds, etc. Take care.
