A little help along the way...

A little help along the way...

2004-05-07 by a_deuteronomy

Background: Played a DW8000 in the local music shop back in the mid
80's and stated:"I GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THESE!!!" but the bucks ($$)
weren't there for a father of four so I put it aside.

Fast Forward to Today: With my youngest graduating college next week,
I'm picking up where I left off. Buying what I've always wanted...
Guitars, Amps, a Hammond (& Leslie, of course), then... I ran across
an old DW8K in a 2nd hand music store (enter: Choir, heavenly music,
etc.). It was pretty hammered but sounded JUST AS COOL as day 1.
Found a good one on ebay and it's mine, all mine. Now, let's get to
the gritty...

I was fortunate enough to print out the DW8K manual ONE DAY before
divinemasquerade.com bit the dust (what a shame)! I've resurrected an
old AT333 PC (Win98SE) and am in the process of trying to get
aruggeri's software functional (yes, I've heard about the win98
trouble) but this seems to work somewhat for me... I think. I say "I
think" because I'm a MIDI novice. Put me behind the backside of an A-
100 and I'm right at home. With PC's and MIDI... duh????? I get the
Live Patch page to work, I don't seem to understand setting up the
sysex files for a 64 patch download. It says it goes, but I only
change 1 channel not 64. If I leave that channel and come back, it
reverts back to the original sound (I guess this is where
write/enable comes in?). There are some other questions about when
the MIDI cables are hooked up and doing screwy things with the
keyboard, but I've taken up enough space. I wouldn't be surprised to
hear "Ho.. Hum.. how many times do we have to go over this?" but, any
help would be appreciated... even off line.

Congratuations on your new (used) DW-8000. I have been a proud owner
of this great sounding synth since it first hit the shops early
1986. Yes, you answered your own question, check the write
enable/disable switch and make sure writing is enabled.
