HiHat HH65/TP65S Trigger Settings "Pad Type"

HiHat HH65/TP65S Trigger Settings "Pad Type"

2004-06-03 by bongokonzelmann

A couple of weeks ago I was posting a question about a quite unusual
effect with my hihat (DTXP III ST, HH65/TP65S) where sometimes trigger
signals got lost if a step on the hihat pedal was immediately followed
by a hit on the hihat pad. In the meantime I found out that for some
reason the trigger settings for the "pad type" had changed. Changing
them to "RHH" for example solved the problem. I also looked up the
standard settings for input 8 but I found the manual in that context
not really clear. My question: Does anybody know the optimal "pad
type" settings?

Thanks for any replies in advance

Bongo,

I would think that the RHH 130 pad type would be appropriate for the
DTXP3SP and that the TP65 would suit the STD edition. If the RHH 130
pad type eliminates the problem, you could just stay with it (the RHH
120 never made it to market). If, however, the problem is bugging
you, like it would me, you might experiment with the hi hat offset
(Utility menu) and possibly sensitivity (Voice menu) parameters.
Certain values may cause the controller to interfere with the hi hat
pad sounding. It may have something to do with the module's alternate
group of an open hi hat and a closed hi hat, preventing them from
sounding at the same time. Just a hypothesis. The only other thing
that occurs to me at the moment is that your polyphony is exhausted,
which would be too much of a coincidence unless it happened at the
same time every time you, say, played along the same way with a
certain song on the sequencer. Long shot, I know.

Both the original RHH130 and the replacement had a slip of paper that
indicated the proper setting for several brains. The only thing I remember
for sure off the top of my head was something about "4" for the DTXP3.

I still have the paper, I'll try to remember to check back tonight.

Okay, glancing once again at your the subject heading of your
message, I notice that you're plugging a TP65S into input 8. That
being the case, the rim might be enabled. If so, when you hit the pad
after a foot fall on the controller, could you be hitting a rim
without a programmed sound, thereby causing the lost trigger signal?
If this reasoning is correct, the RHH 130 would correct the dropout,
since it doesn't allow any switch functions.

I wonder if the "4" was a rejection number, based on the bug we
noticed that shipped with the DTXP2.

Now I'm not sure, so don't carve this into stone ;) , but I think it was
sensitivity
for the trigger input.

Just stirring the cracked pot, will try to remember to write it to the
list tonight.

Ed,

thanks for the prompt response.

Indeed I checked again and the setting which solved the problem
actually was the "RHP" or "TP1/Tom" (instead of "RHH" as mentioned below).

I don´t think it´s a polyphony problem as the trigger signal losses
also occur with no song playing in the background or other pads hit at
the same time. It also only appears when the hihat pad is hit rather
softly.

Bongo,

RHP stands for "real head pad," which was the term used for the mylar
pads that came with the first version of the DTXtreme. Because the
module increases the signal when set for that type of pad, and
because your problem occurs only with light hits, I'm lead to believe
that your gain/minumum velocity settings for input 8 aren't
adequate. What happens when you raise the gain a notch or two and
lower the min vel?
