Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

Hi,

This is concerning the TP80s.  My pad works perfectly on the playing 
surface.  However on the RIM, it only triggers on the right side
(when used in the snare position).  For the other side, I must hit 
harder for it to trigger.  Is the rim suppose to trigger all around 
the rim (360 degrees)?  

For the PCY60, when I hit the cymbal very hard, I hear a crash and a 
light sound of TOM1.  Why does this happen?  Is it the pad? the 
cable? or the module?  Will a system reset make a difference? How do 
we do a system reset?

Yes, it is. However, the rim membrane switch is actually divided 
into two. The track runs from the PCB (where the cable plugs in) out 
to the point where the 'S' is printed on the rim, then divides - 
half runs clockwise, half anticlockwise. One half can (and does) go 
bad. I have a PCY80S cymbal that only has a working rim trigger on 
one side. Not much you can do about this, I'm afraid.

Cross-talk. The vibration is being machanically transmitted down the 
cymbal boom, into the rack, and then to tom1 where it's enough to 
trigger it.

First, make sure the wing nut isn't done up tight on the cymbal - 
there should be some play. Then look at the "specific rejection" 
parameters (trigger settings). The tom1 trigger should be set to 
reject the cymbal trigger (whatever the input numbers are). Try 
raising the value.

Yeah,
Well actually, it does trigger on the left side, but I have to hit 
the rim much harder.  On the right side I do not have to hit as hard 
and the sound is loud.  You think maybe its a setting in the module 
or maybe on the pad itself? (polarity and sensitivity switches)

No, as I think I explained, I think your rim switch is faulty. 
Sensitivity settings apply to the way the piezo signal is interpreted 
and is for the whole pad. The switch is just that - a switch. It's on 
or off. End of story. If you have to hit it harder, the switch is 
faulty and will eventually fail altogether as mine has.

Have you tried moving the pad to a different trigger input say 6 or 7,
adjusting the voice and trigger settings to see if it works there?
If it doesn't, then Stewart is correct, you probably have a broken rim
switch. I have not read of a method for repairing them and the cost of a new
rim switch is going to be more the a new pad.
