Update rom chip in the DTXpressII

Update rom chip in the DTXpressII

2003-08-05 by rdamon@mckinney-usa.com

All:

I have just received the last two update rom chips for my DTXpressII and
will install them this weekend. This chip added the cymbal choking on all
zones 1 through 8, instead of just on zones 2,6,7. Yamaha really came
through with flying colors on this issue, a real class act. I simply can't
say enough good things about Yamaha's tech support team. I know many here
have opted for changing from the rubber pad (TP60/TP65S) to a non-Yamaha
mesh head (and are extremely happy with their results), but I for one will
wait for Yamaha's next generation mesh pads to come out in Winter Namm2004
(or 2005 or 2006).

Has anybody else contacted Yamaha and received the updated chip?

I am also curious if any of the new shipments of the DTXpressII are coming
with the updated chip? Anybody that has bought one in the last week or so,
let us know.

Hi OGD:

Can you tell us exactly how to get this updated ROM chip? I have tried
calling them in CA and never hearing back from anyone...

Thanks,
Stephanie

Stephanie,

I emailed YCASupport@... about my problem (basically three
full kits meshed into one mega kit) not getting the choke to work on
all zones and Martin Arroyo with Yamaha Tech Support confirm the
problem, contacted the production engineer and they solved the
problem and sent me the three replacement chips. Since most people
that have just the basic kit don't need this feature on all zones, I
can't imagine them just sending the chip to everyone who bought the
dtxpressII, unless you can show a real need. (I sent photos of my kit
as proof, that I really needed the fix.)
