EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!

2003-07-10 by coachman6666

Hey. The stupid place I ordered my dtxpress II from forgot to ship me
a power supply. So, I used my 6v power supply...... I think this is
the reason for my problems (see above post by me). Anyway, I took out
the power supply and am now waiting for a new one. Does anyone know
if using a 6v adapter will short out or break the system? Or will it
just cause a low volume and shut off alot? cause thats what was
happening. I am not going to use the 6v anymore but I just want to
know if it will have any long term problems from suing it.

And if it is blown..... then Ill just tell them the brain was shipped
with the battery loose (which it was) and that I need a new brain :)

Well, in most cases under-voltage shouldn't hurt the unit. MOst digital
just gets really squirrly with low voltage, but it doesnt overheat or
anything like that. It would explain the very low volume and the
distorted output you described. The things most digital circuits really
dont like is overvoltage and reversed polarity. Those are the type thing
that can kill a unit like the DTxpress.

I would be very careful to use exactly the correct polarity and MA rating
supply. You will need to supply some very stable and very well filtered
power since this is a sound-generator. IF you give it unfiltered or
poorly filtered power you might end up with buzzing in the audio.

The rating on my power supply is as follows:

12vdc 700ma positive tip.

I would suggest you get the real unit, but if you're really keen to start
playing the unit right away, they might have a replacement unit at Radio
Shack. Again, be *very* careful not to get the polarity backwards or to
exceed the 12v limit as this can cause an overheat and failure of the
unit.

Cool, thanks for your input. As I said Im going to wait for the real
cable to come in before I play it again. It was overnight shipped so
it should be here like friday.

Also, I have a really nice amp id like to use ofr the dtxpress. How
would I connect it? The only way i can think of setting it up is
going though the headphone port, and then going into the input on the
amp, then using my headphones on the amp, or whatever I need.

BTW, it was working nice with the 6v until I tried to connect the amp,
and then it just kept shutting off when I tried to play. I guess that
was because of the low voltage and the need for more voltage??
