Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

Apologies if this has been answered, I have looked but cannot find 
it. I would like to connect my DTXpress to my soundblaster platinum 
5.1 which has midi in and out on the live drive, what type of cable 
do I need? standard midi cables seem to use a D-type. Also which PC 
software is recommended by the group for working with MIDI for a 
total novice. Many thanks in advance of any replies.

forgot to add I know my sound card has a d-type connector on the back 
but I want to use the live drive midi connectors.
