Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

All of a sudden, if I select a kit that triggers a pad song and try 
and record it in the sequencer, the pad songs don't play back only
the other triggers. I know i've done this before but can no longer
get 
this to work.

YAMAHA tech support says they don't think it can be done. However, I 
know i've done this before. Besides, why have a drum kit where only
some of the triggers can be recorded to the sequencer?

Does anyone have any ideas?
