Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

Hi Guys
I am giving consideration towards the purchase of the above mentioned 
software and am anxious to get some feedback/reviews from anyone who 
is aware of this software or who may have used this. 

I purchased a DTXpress (2nd hand) two weeks ago and am anxious to 
gain a structured approach towards learning how to play the drums 
properly.....without the expense of paying for lessons so any advice 
that I can gain would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively to the 
Stickmaster software if anyone can recommend other interactive books 
or software then that would be cool too.

If in the event that I do purchase the Stickmaster software what lead 
do I need to connect my DTXPRESS to my laptop. I have a laptop with 
an onboard ESS MAESTRO PCI AUDIO Card. I do not own any external MIDI 
sound card devices.

Hi Brian




I have Stickmaster and it is good. I found it to be great fun to play 
along with. It is more like a game than anything else but it does help 
to build muscle memory and improve timing. You also get a good feel 
for reading drum tabs (sheet music). It is well worth the price at 
$24.95.




I use a standard midi cable through a joystick port but a USB cable 
should work fine with your notebook. You could always try it out using 
the freeware DTXchange utility before you buy Stickmaster. If it works 
with one it will work with the other. You can download the utility and 
get instruction on connecting your module at http://www.dtxpressions.

I encourage you to take just some drum lessons aswell if you are 
serious about drumming. just to get the grip right it will prevent 
you from getting "bad habits" and will help you further on.
just a thought :=)
