Need Help for use with Ddrum trigger on DTXpress

2003-02-20 by dopmi <mapod@wanadoo.fr>

Hi , rather then use Yamaha pad i use now my acoustic drum with Mesh
Head and Ddrum trigger , i don't have a good result for now : after
some change on Gain and Velocity i still have problem to have good
sensitivity of sound , to have a almost loud snare sound i have to
hit Real Hard on my snare , i had that even without start changing
after using Yamaha pad , so i guess there is something to change
somewhere when you change from clasic pad to acoustic drum with a
Ddrum triggering ? i remember that some of you used Ddrum kick pad ,
what did you change to have a good sensitivity ?
Thank's
Stephane

ok ii have finaly find how to have a better sensitivity with my
acoustic drum with trigger Ddrum rather then clasic Yamah pad ( i
select on input parameters misc 1 or DT snare for the snare ) but i
still don't have enough loud sound on snare ( or tom ) when i play
not so loud ( emesh head are not so quiet to play real hard on it
after midnight ), the only way to have a enough loud sound while
playing not real hard on snare is to set velocity to more then 35 ,
but then ghost not sound don't sound anymore like ghost note , to
have good ghost note i have to set velocity to not more then 20 or
25 and gain to at least 80 , is there another thing i can try to
change to have a good ghost note And have a enough loud sound when i
play a "normal" hit on snare ( i mean not real hard hit ) ?? ( like i
had with clasic Yamaha pad )
Thank You
Stephane

There are two things I could suggest. First try a different trigger
setup. when in the normal display, press the page up button.Select the
 'Trig = 3 EASY' setup.
If this doesn't work, go back to normal. In the trigger setup menu
select a different velocity curve. Try 'Loud 2'
Hope this helps...

Hi Stephane,

I haven't been following closely so I may be outdated, but have you
flipped the attenuation switches on the back of the module for
inputs 1-6 to the up position and changed the trigger setup to
DT10/20?

Stephane,

These suggested settings should help. See what you think.

Hi , i only have time to test what you said now , and that didn't
resolve the problem , also there is a new problem i didn't saw
before , when i'am on gain and velocity page i can see above the %
when i hit my snare and even when i play real hard on it i can only
have 43 % !!! , that's the problem ! , is that mean that emesh head
on acoustic drum or Ddrum trigger are not compatible with DTXpress
module ? i need a more sensitive module ?

Yes, the the hits aren't registering. If you've adjusted the
module's settings correctly, the source of the problem would seem to
be the drum, not the module. I don't have any experience with ddrum
triggers, so I can't say for sure, but I suspect they should work
fine with the Yamaha electronics. Have you tried changing the
trigger's position on the drum, or swapping that particular trigger
with another one?

the trigger is on the border , i fiwed them right i think , and all
my drum who have same problem of sensitivity ( on snare trigger are
on left side and on floor tom drum on the right side so i don't think
that the position is the problem )

Re: Need Help for use with Ddrum trigger on DTXpress

2003-02-22 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

Scott (hairytrigger) has reported that ddrum triggers first worked
for him through an Alesis module, but not so well through his
Yamaha, though he admits that he may not have been patient enough.
Someone else has said that the combination works okay, but setting
up the triggers is the hard part. If you could get another company's
trigger and try it, you'd at least be able to tell whether the ddrum
is the root of the problem. I'll see if I can come up with any more
ideas or information.

Re: Need Help for use with Ddrum trigger on DTXpress

2003-02-22 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

Here's what ddrum has to say about whether its triggers work with
other modules:

ddrum Triggers are designed to work with ddrumAT, ddrum3 and ddrum4
sound modules. They may also work with other brands, but the
functionality cannot be guaranteed. Some drum modules have problems
detecting the trig signal from ddrum Triggers. If you want to try
anyway, it important to know that Pin 2 is hot and Pin 1 is shield
on the ddrum Triggers. Some microphone cables have Pin 3 hot and
some drum modules may be designed according to this.

i have the Red Shot trigger serie , with Jack cable not pin .
but you reply when you said that a guy here had a problem with Ddrum
trigger and find how to use it good with DTXpress take him lot of
time , seem he don't saw any of my message :-(((
he can be Very helpful for me !
