DS10 drum module

DS10 drum module

2003-01-28 by Brett <baaron_123@yahoo.com>

Ed, again thanx for the info, but I think the drum module being shown
with the set-up is the DTX2.0. I can't tell for sure, because there
is no info listed for the system. Could it be that they swappee
modules to make it a lower price? Here's the link to this particular
page.

Thanks again, Ed.

Brett,

I didn't realize that the kit was from Musiciansfriend. I thought
that you may have run across a different store that was trying to
unload an old midlevel kit with the recently discontinued DTXtreme
module. Now it makes perfect sense that the module be the DTX2U,
which was discontinued years ago, because that is the module that
went with this particular configuration. It's definitely a good
module, with better ergonomics and programming features than its
DTXpress counterpart, but, as I have learned, it represents the
oldest of Yamaha's e-drum technology.

In the end, this will have to be your call. I will say that if you
bought the DS10, you certainly wouldn't be unhappy. You would be
getting more drums and more versatility in general for the money (if
the DS10 and the DTXpress II are in fact the same price). If you
were going to stay with rubber pads, the DTXpress II has the
advantage of a three-sound snare--body, rim shot, and crossstick--
and an option for adding other rubber pads with three possible
sounds; the DTX2.0 doesn't have the electronics or the pads to
match. Rumour has it that Yamaha has a three-sound cymbal in the
works as well; time will tell. If that interests you, the DTXpress
is your only choice. Check the Hart site again to see whether the
DTX2U has more of what you're looking for.

The DTX2.0 module itself fetches about $250 used on ebay these days,
and a lot of them are showing up. The price can only go down
further. One more caveat: Mus.Frd has been suspected of repackaging
returned equipment and selling it as new at times. I have a feeling
they sent me a used cymbal once (it had hole drilled in it that did
not belong there). This is not to say that the deal wouldn't be a
good one either way, but the DS10 has been out of print so to speak
for a good long time. Have they been holding onto it that long?

Ed

Again, Ed, you have been a true help. i definately
like the ability to be able to expand upon my
configuration with more pads. Overall, I believe that
I want to get the latest, and the best, at an
affordable price, and I believe the DTXpress 2 to be
the better of the two for me. Until next time....
