Warning! Limited DTXPress info

Hi Rick and everyone,

Thanks for the interesting post Rick about your favs and thanks for the very
good point about the rotation of the pads.

Right now, I'm just having fun playing for the first time in 15 years and
have just put one kit in of my own, I have not really even opened the books
up yet.
I did see one point which alarmed me a little, this battery and back up
business?

Anyone know the expected life of the internal battery and, with me not be up
on this stuff yet, how easy is it to save the memory to this MIDI Data Filer
MDF3 ( and at what cost? )

Rick mentioning Stuart Copeland, made me wonder, is still playing? - Sorry, I
know this probably sounds dumb ( Been away too long! )

And that reminded me about another 'Rock' drummer who I was fortunate to work
with and who I have high hopes for, Taylor Hawkins ( Foo Fighters )
I worked with him when he was with Alanis Morissette and spent a few night
talking to him on the over night bus. A few drinks ( it was a drug free bus )
and we spent the whole night comparing drummers.
His top three back then were Roger Taylor, Phil Collins and Stuart Copeland.
Nice guy and fun to be around.

In case anyone is wondering how I get to work with these people, In my job (
and now I have my own company ) I book the travel for music tours.

As for my past, oh god, this is where the closet perhaps should remain
closed, but....
Possibly only for the UK members here?

I was a part time member of the school band that went on to be known as WHAM!
no flames please...
I also played ( while at school ) with some of Steve Hillage's band members,
The Motors ( after their hit ) Got down to the last two in auditions for Adam
& The Ants (LOL), Played in a band with some of the early Marillion members
and did various sessions for 'Wannabes' ( like me! )

I also had the chance to play with Mick Karn ( of Japan fame ) who got a load
of drummers in and just jammed with each of us, recording all for a future
project.
We were to each get a letter saying " Your drum part has / hasn't been used"
and money would be forthcoming that way.

How would we know?? - But for the record, my letter said "Hasn't" :0)

Numerous bands from 77 - 85 but none every quite got beyond a few TV slots
and limited airplay - We've all been there!

Enough of giving you lot a laugh.

Finally thanks to Andy for his 'Live' review, please can you keep this thread
going after future shows?
Not sure if I will ever get back to a live band in the years ahead, but it
would be good to be able to draw on your, or anyone else's experiences.

Sorry for the drawn out nature of this.
Cheers for now

Graham

Graham.
Bleedin 'ell, you've been around!
My only claim to fame was that (when I lived in
Bradford) Ian Astbury asked me to join Southern Death
Cult - but I turned them down cause they were crap. As
it happens, I would have done a much better job in the
Cult :-}

Steve Hillage! Did you play with Mike Howlett? I met
him once at the "Battle of the Bands" a while back.
Had a chat with him before our slot. We came second.
"Fish Rising" was my life when I was 14.
And Mick Karn!! I am so jealous. Apart from Jaco, this
guy has to be the most innovative and talented player
to emerge on the scene since.....well, no-one.

Onto your questions:
Battery life - I think maybe about 2 or 3 years
depending on how much you use the kit and how long it
was in storage before it was shipped to you.

Back up - The MDF is an option, but if you've got a
PC, you don't need it. You can back everything up via
SysEx to a file on your PC.

Hi Giles
Cool, the above still looks good on the CV!

As for Steve Hillage, no, not Mike Howlett and the some of the guys I can't
even recall their names ( 20 years ago now! ), but I did end up in a band
with his keyboard player at the time, Phil Hodge, who is on 'Live Herald' (
and perhaps more albums? )

As for backing up, thanks for the information. However, I am an Apple user (
iMac and two G3 Powerbooks ) can anyone point me in the right direction for
backing up to an Apple?

Thanks as ever for your help!

Cheers

Graham
