Midi Help

Midi Help

2005-02-14 by swanseadrummer

I would like to use the DTx3 to play back midi files as backing
tracks. I know that I can do this through a pc, but is there any way
of tranfering a midi file dirctly into a user song area. I have
tried playing a midi on the pc and recording to the DTx, but run out
of memory before the end of the song.

Any help apreciated.

Sadly the modules sequencer memory seems somewhat limited, as you've found
your lucky if you can hold a song in it.

If your looking for something portable to playback the MIDI files (away from
the PC):
Occasionally on ebay a Yamaha MDF 2/3 data filer will appear. These can be
used for SMF type 0 playback, as well as sysex datafilers. It also uses
standard PC DOS 3.5" disks. (NB the MDF 2 uses DSDD, I think the MDF 3 can
use HD type disks)

You'll also find that the files will sound more 'cheesy' than normal - the
DTX modules don't have in-built chorus, so synth, and string patches will
sound rather thin.

S-E-A,

Thanks for the response. As I suspected. What i Have done is mix
down midi onto an audio track and exported as mp3 and played back on
an mp3 player through the aux input. This does work ok, but would be
more convenient if the midi could be saved directly onto the module.
Never mind though - it was just a thought.
