dtxchange installed, connected, but...?

Hi there, I am trying to back up my user data from my dtxpress II to my friend's pc (running windows ME, and is already set up with a midi box, soundcard, etc). I downloaded dtxchange from the dtxpressions website and installed it on his pc. The first 2 tests were successful, but any further attempts at bulk dump is just not happening! I am connecting to the pc via a midi cable (no longer than 2m, as the manual recommends). I've tried switching cables, reinstalling the software, even downloaded the software again and reinstalled it... Please can someone help me? I am not much of a techhead (as you may already have gathered), so the simpler the explanation the better! Thanks, suko
