Roland KC-500 keyboard amp @ gig

Roland KC-500 keyboard amp @ gig

2001-05-14 by Michael Geldert

I tried to use my old 35 watt Fender Bass amp on my first gig with the
DTXpress, and even in the small club that we were playing, it did not have
enough sound, plus the low end came through real well but the higher end
(hi-hat, snare) did not come through well at all. So I went out and bought
a Roland KC-500 keyboard amp, and I have to tell you, it was like night and
day, it really made the DTX sound great. I also have a DW kit, and I plan
to use it for the special gigs, but for the gigs in small clubs with the
Roland amp the DTX sounds great.

Best Regards
Michael Geldert

Michael and group,

I also have a KC-500. I mail ordered it from a place with free shipping
(Kraft Music I think?), and it is really a wonderful piece, and a fantastic
match for this kit as well.

When i play live, i have found that using my Marshall Keyboard combo works great but also have found that patching me into the P.A system helps give a bigger, more spacious sound, plus it can be monitored accurately by the rest of the band. My Marshall really just adds to the overall sound plus it acts as my monitor.

I was going to ask you all to recommend an amp to use at small gigs. Don't
Yamaha produce a dedicated amp/monitor for their DTX range like Roland do
for their V-Drums with the PM-3 monitor? Has anyone used a PM-3 monitor
with their DTXpress kit and if so, is it suitable for small gigs?

Regards
Phil

Re: [DTXpress] Roland KC-500 keyboard amp @ gig

I Have a Peavey KB300 Keyboard combo. This is a pretty awesome piece of kit.
I use it for practice in my live room. It can be seen on my web site www.ourgatestudios.co.uk
select live room from the main page. Note this picture is before I had the DTXpress so the kit
is not seen in the room (yet) on the site. This amp is 300 watts and can take anything you can throw at
it. It has a built in compressor / limiter so it will never distort or overload. However, I would still not
use this on it's own for a reasonable size gig. I still feel that I would require PA support, and use the
KB300 for backfill and personal monitoring. Their could be nothing worse than playing your arse off
but getting no punch locally. you would be hitting the pads but hearing no response back over the sound
of the rest of the band. YUK!
Jules Freeman.

I tried a KC-100 for use with my acoustic guitar as well as the dtx
and it wasn't powerful enough for my taste, so I took it back and
moved up to the KC-300.
